Education is one of the main ministries of the Sisters of Mount Carmel. On January 25 – 30, 2015 the Catholic Schools celebrated Catholic Schools Week.
Mount Carmel Elementary and Vermilion Catholic School in Abbeville opened their Catholic Schools Week celebration with a joint Eucharistic Celebration on January 26, 2015 at 8:00 in the morning. Students from Mount Carmel Elementary and Vermillion Catholic School with their parents, families, alumni and friends, gathered at the VC Gym for the celebration. Father Louis Richard presided at the Eucharistic Celebration. After the Eucharistic Celebration, a representative from the Office of the Mayor presented a certificate to both schools proclaiming Catholic Schools Week in Abbeville.
Highlights of the celebrations were the David Ray Caillouet Foundation Scholarship Award granted to one of the MCE students.
Another highlight of the celebration was the announcement of the Teacher of the Year of the two schools. Ms. Nicole Moorer was named Teacher of the Year from MCE and Ms. Nicole Small from VC.
Sister Maria Sheila Undang, O. Carm. joined the students, faculty, staffs, and school administration in the celebration.
